CAMP COOK OFF - THE 2015 SCENARIO

We’ve had to make things a bit more challenging this year!

Picture this:-  You left home on your motor cycle to travel around the Wheatbelt with your friends.  You’ve travelled way out bush and there are limited shops along the route.  You will need to plan and purchase ingredients along the way taking your chances on what you can get at a country town no closer than 100knm from the venue. You will be asked to produce your shopping docket as evidence for any perishable items used in your meal or any item the judges deem could not travel more than 3 days in your pannier without spoiling.

Please note: Some country town shops may close early on weekends, factor this in! else you end up shopping at the roadhouse.

YOUR MISSION: To cook a main meal to impress from ingredients that have been purchased locally, packed in your gear and travelled on your bike with you to Ball Bally Hall.  Your main meal must:  be safe to consume (its Bally Bally not Bali Belly); be nutritious; look good enough to eat and taste great.

THE RULES

  • 1.      To enter the 2015 BMW MCC WA Camp Cook-Off you must be a current financial member of the club.  Non-members are not eligible to compete or win prizes in this competition.
  • 2.      Entrants to the 2015 Camp Cook-Off must carry all their camping gear, cooking ingredients, cooking utensils and cooking equipment to the campsite on their motorcycle.
  • 3.      Meal preparation may commence from 4pm and cooking must be completed by no later than 6.30pm.
  • 4.      Entrants must display their cooking ingredients, utensils and cooking equipment and proof of purchase for the judges to view, prior to commencing preparation of the main meal.
  • 5.      Your main meal must be created from ‘scratch’ i.e. no prior preparation such as marinading etc. is to occur outside the campsite.
  • 6.      As a minimum, you need to cook enough to feed yourself and a small tasting plate for the judges.
  • 7.      Your main meal must be presented to the judges for tasting between 6pm and 7pm.
  • 8.      The judges will not tolerate much bribery.  The judges’ decisions are final and will not be negotiated.
  • 9.      You must use your own stove or camp fire to prepare your meal – Use of Hall facilities is not permitted

CAMP COOK OFF - JUDGES SCORING GUIDE

Contestants will be awarded points for the main meal they prepare based on the following:

  • Suitability of ingredients to cook a main meal, purchased locally and after being packed on the motor bike without refrigeration
  • Use of ‘basic’ ingredients only i.e. no pre-prepared ingredients or commercial mixes (eg: pancakes made from scratch rather than from a packaged commercial mix). No tinned meals re constituted (Jamie and Tom)
  • Nutritional value of your main meal
  • Planning and presentation of your meal.
  • Originality and creativity.
  • Points may be deducted if your meal recipe is easily googled

WHAT ABOUT THE MOTORCYCLES?

Choose your own route to the event pending your penchant for the dirt or bitumen.  It is a good idea to clock your mileage – there might be a prize to be won.

Non-riders / non-members are very welcome.  Why not bring your partner or the whole family along?  There’s ample camping space and access to flushing toilets and running water!  Even some man-made shelter if required.

PRIZES

Each year our sponsors donate a range of great prizes that members entering the Camp Cook-Off are eligible to win.  In past years prizes have included camping gear, apparel, professional services and the major prize of a motor bike jacket.  Be in it to win it and when you can, please support the Club’s very generous sponsors.
